Camping in the Youth Section.

The Youth Section is aimed at young people between the ages of 12-21. There is also a Junior Section for the younger children between the ages of 8-11. The Junior Section is aimed at giving the younger children the camping experience centring on basic camping skills like tent erection, cooking and First Aid. Juniors must however be under the guidance of their parents at all times. At the age of 12 they can become members of the Camping Club Youth which is now free and this entitles them to their own membership card displaying their District Association. As a Youth Member, they will be eligible to train and undertake their Youth Test which involves choosing a suitable camp site, tent erection, cooking and maintaining a healthy balanced diet, map reading and using a compass for navigation, First Aid, packing kit and the Countryside Code. Once passed, at the age of 14-21 the Youth member can camp unaccompanied on all Club Sites at Children’s rates (upon production of a valid test certificate), attend International Youth Rallies and remain in the Youth Section until they are 21. It will also entitle them to a discounted Senior Youth membership rate when they reach 21 which is available until they are 30.

For further details please contact the Region Youth Liaison Officers, Paul and Racheal Slater.

News

As many of you know, North Central Region will be hosting the 45th National Youth Rally at Oswestry Showground over the weekend of 1st-3rd July 2011. We are looking for ideas and designs for the meet pennon. We have enclosed a template with issue 4 of "Grass Routes" for all those budding artists to pen designs. The only guidelines are that it must be on the HOT PINK background and should use only one colour-black!! The deadline for designs is 1st September 2010. We would like to put a number of designs to the Region Council to decide a winner at the September meeting before presenting the winning design to the National Youth Committee in December

Please don't forget about the training weekends we have organised. These are an opportunity for you to meet up and make new friends. We will be having some fun activities over the weekends too. Come and learn the fundamentals of good camping, where and how to pitch a tent, how to cook great food and how to use a map and compass to find your way. Details of these can be found on the websites and in the "Grass Routes" magazine.

If anyone needs any more information on the weekends, please do not hesitate to contact us at youth@northcentralregion.co.uk
