National Youth Rally 2012

Hosted by Southern Region. Ufton Green Farm, 6th to 8th July

What can I say, Southern Region gave everyone a good time despite the wet weather.
Some came prepared, some didn't, but they still managed to have a great time.
It was nice to be able to take along 4 girls and 1 boy from our region too.
They were used quite wisely in the sports by other regions and participated without any problems at all. We should all be very proud of those fair few youth members who participate on a regular basis as they are a credit to our region.

Friday night saw Andy Wilson put on a fabulous welcoming disco.
Saturday proved to be a little bit different. The sports were held even with the short sharp burst of rain and a really energised atmosphere was felt.
The theme for the Saturday night disco was "Beach Party" with quite a few wet suits appearing (very apt!), but even with the rain still tumbling down
the party atmosphere carried on.

Sunday saw the Austin Trophy begin in sunshine. Apart from one short shower the remainder of the event took place in sunshine.
A lot of fun was had by all teams who entered. The final results were as follows:

Football - Runners up - Yorkshire Region
- Winners - North West Region
Netball - Runners up - Yorkshire Region
- Winners - North West Region
Volleyball - Runners up - Yorkshire Region
- Winners - North West Region
Austin Trophy - Runners up - Scottish Region
- Winners - Yorkshire Region
Rod Daniels Trophy - Winners - Scottish Region

Certificate of Achievements were also awarded at the closing ceremony with three outstanding individuals being nominated.
Those nominated were
- Courney Hawkins from South East Region
- Ashley Flanagan from Yorkshire Region
- and Mark Tompkins from Central Counties Region.
The overall winner was - Courtney Hawkins from South East Region who was presented with her prize and certificate by Club Chairman, Albert Walker.
The runners up were also presented with a certificate and prize.

The travel back from reading was eventfull too, we had to make a detour due to a closure on the M40 and travelled past Coventry where we made an inpromptue stop at the Camping and Caravanning Club Head Quarters.
